Jazz Underground presents 13 Tribute Shows in Commemoration of the Civil Rights Movement 50 Year Anniversary

Jazz Underground will present 13 tribute shows in honor of the 50 Year Commemoration of the Civil Rights Movement.  The tribute shows will be performed by a combination of local bands and national recording artist with a kick off celebration on December 8, 2012 highlighting the  sounds of Motown.

The tentative schedule for the 2013 tribute shows are:

  • December 8, 2012 – Kick-off Motown Tribute & 2013 Promotion
  • January 26, 2013 – Sam Cooke (Birthday – January 22, 1931)
  • February 23, 2013 – Smokey Robinson/Miracles (February 19, 1940)
  • March 23, 2013 – Aretha Franklin (Birthday – March 25, 1942)
  • April 27, 2013 – Marvin Gaye (Birthday – April 2, 1939)
  • May 11, 2013 – The Supremes (Active – January 15, 1961)
  • June 29, 2013 – Curtis Mayfield/Impressions (Birthday – June 3, 1942)
  • July 27, 2013 – Martha and the Vandellas (Active 1962)
  • August 24, 2013 – Otis Redding (Birthday – September 9, 1941)
  •  September 21, 2013 – Ray Charles (Birthday – September 23, 1930)
  • October 26, 2013 – Etta James (1963 Album)
  • November 30, 2013 – Tina Turner (Birthday – November 26, 1939)
  • December 28, 2013 – Music from the Movement Showcase (Mega show featuring all artist and a variety of music from 1960 – 1969)
